When I was a kid Mom made this twice a year. Thanksgiving and Christmas. She, brother Jack and I each had a slice and my Dad would finish the rest off. Now that I’M the old one I get to eat the most (riiiiiight).
Here is her recipe:
Melt 2 bars German sweet chocolate and 2 tbsp water in a double boiler, stirring occasionally. When cooled to warm add 2 egg yolks and 2-3 tbsp powdered sugar. Mix well by hand.
Whip 1/2 pint whipping cream, set aside.
Whip 2 egg whites till stiff peaks. When chocolate has cooled fold in cream then whites.
Place lady finger halves in pan, cover with chocolate mixture. Layer lady fingers with more chocolate on top. Cover with wax paper and refrigerate 12 hours. Serve.
